SOUTHERN RAILWAY'S
KINSTON, NORTH CAROLINA
FREIGHT STATION

Southern Freight Station. Line drawing of large brick freight house with large arched doors.
The roof features a large clerestory running its length.
The model sits atop a concrete platform skirted with concrete cinder blocks.

SOUTHERN RAILWAY
FREIGHT STATION

The Kinston Freight Station kit features six artistically rendered brick walls cast in White Hydrocal that build into a precise yet shortened rendition of the prototype (which was 220 ft. long!) as depicted in the November 1987 issue of Mainline Modeler.

Optional 37 ft. long additional side wall castings sets make longer structures possible.

The loading platform, ramp, brick skirts, small platforms, steps and chimney are included. Prototype truss construction with full rafters, clerestory detail, "tin" roof, Grandt Line door and windows, and Northeastern stripwood fill out the list of quality components.

The kit comes with complete step-by-step instructions with full-sized templates.

It would make a great addition to your layout.

40' x 87' ( 5 1/2" x 12" ) in HO Scale.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - for this model

ON-LINE HOW TO CLINICS

  HOW TO CLINICS
Here are a bunch of my on-line how to work with Hydrocal mini-clinics. Each kit includes specific instructions of course- and there are lots of ways to do things, but here are my thoughts, tips and techniques.

  Coloring BRICK
My traditional techniques for coloring and mortaring brick.

  Coloring CONCRETE
A little gray ink wash and some colorants. It's not that difficult.

SCRATCH-BUILDING STOCK

  Standard Common Brick- fine
If you like to scratch-build or just want to practice before you do, check out my stock castings. These are the same building blocks I use to create my kits.

  Cinder Block Wall
Mix it up a bit and you'll have an even more interesting building.

  Concrete Retaining Wall
Whole 4" x 8" panels of the stuff. Use them for retaining walls, foundations, even make complete buildings like I have.

COMPLEMENTARY KITS

The Safety Hook & Ladder Co.
  Brick Firehouse

How about this little two-story firehouse? It's the prefect introduction to Hydrocal brick structures. If you are afraid to tackle the larger kits why not start here? You will find that Hydrocal modeling is lots of fun and not that difficult to master.

  The Stone Shingle Mill
is a great introduction to modeling stone in Hydrocal. This is one of my personal favorites, and indeed, over time it's been one of my most popular kits.

  The GN Depot
How about a passenger depot to go along with your freight house? If you are a free-lance modeler they'd make a handsome pair.
