OLD VIRGINIA HORSE BARN

The Virginia Horse Barn.

Who says they don't make them like they used to?

This small horse barn is typical of those found all across America.
The Old Virginia Horse Barn kit features traditional board-by-board construction inside and out. No fake rafter ends here! No fried plywood!! Grandpa would never approve of that. Real planked floors, individual joists, proper posts and beams, prototype trusses with full rafters. And fun to build.

The ultimate challenge for the craftsman modeler!

Based on a passing glance of prototype structure in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and a classic design my grandfather drew of a vintage barn he once repaired near Tiffin, Ohio.

Comes with complete step-by-step instructions and full-sized templates, a bundle of Northeastern Basswood and a fresh single-edge razor blade to chop the wood. Includes stone ramp and wishing well with cast Hydrocal stone foundation. Designed to be built into a shallow hillside. Seamed metal roof is cardstock and stripwood.

18' x 40' ( 2-1/2" x 5-1/8" ) in HO scale.

ON-LINE HOW TO CLINICS

  HOW TO CLINICS
Here are a bunch of my on-line how to work with Hydrocal mini-clinics. Each kit includes specific instructions of course- and there are lots of ways to do things, but here are my thoughts, tips and techniques.

  Coloring STONE
With a little practice you can color realistic stone walls. Here's how I do it.
What are we going to do now that Testors/Floquil has dropped their Flo-Stains?

SCRATCH-BUILDING STOCK

  Hand-Carved Stone- fine
Sorry there's no exact match for this stonework but my HCS-f might do. You could use it for retaining walls and such around the place.

  Standard Common Brick- fine
If you like to scratch-build or just want to practice before you do, check out my stock castings. These are the same building blocks I use to create my kits.

COMPLEMENTARY KITS

  German Colonial Farmhouse
is a good match for the horse barn.

  Pennsylvania Slit-Window Bank Barn
is the perfect match for the German Colonial. It has the same type stone walls. In fact I definately tried to match them. The roof is different though, a seamed metal affair.

The Safety Hook & Ladder Co.
  Brick Firehouse

How about this little two-story firehouse? It's the prefect introduction to Hydrocal brick structures. If you are afraid to tackle the larger kits why not start here? You will find that Hydrocal modeling is lots of fun and not that difficult to master.

  The Stone Shingle Mill
is a great introduction to modeling stone in Hydrocal. This is one of my personal favorites, and indeed, over time it's been one of my most popular kits.
